Well, we never did get away on Saturday. It's now Wednesday and we have become a permanent fixture here at the Coffa Harbour Marina. The waves are still crashing over the break-wall, but we manage to dodge them each day as we go for our daily walk to check the ocean and/or go for little outings into town for lunch or a shop. Other than that, it's been extremely cosy inside the boat thanks to Col packing the bar heater and we have had a lovely, restful, almost 10 days.
The long weekend here at Coffs was H U G E and luckily for us, most of the fun and games was centred down here at the lovely big park right next to the Marina. There were lots of great markets and excellent food stalls, 60's revival bands with many people, young and old dressed in their finest and at times hysterical 60's gear. Col enjoyed checking out about 100 beautifully restored cars from the 40's, 50's and 60's including finding the replica 1957 Chevrolet that he borrowed from his father to take me on our first date when I was 16. O M G ...... unbelievable.
As Yamba and Ballina bars from past experiences are quite YUCKY, we are planning very carefully our exit from here which will hopefully be an approx.140nm track straight through to the Gold Coast Seaway. Like we said last week, Friday or Saturday looks pretty good, with seas settled right back down again. Only time will tell.
Hoping our next news will be from Surfers Paradise early next week.

ReplyDeleteWhat is 140 naut miles eqal to in land miles say? Must have been a great rest. Love from the land lubbers in Narara. Xx
Thanks land lubbers. Last night we were at sea all night and we're still going out here and I was wishing I was a land lubber, however with daylight and sun shining I've changed my mind again. We were supposed to only have 10-15 S/SW and of course it was 20-25 and at night it's not nice. I've just waved goodbye to Ben at Byron. Oh, by the way -
ReplyDeleteOne mile is 5280ft and a nautical mile is 6000ft so 720ft is the difference. Big deal, I say. Why can't it be all the same and make it easy. Gold Coast tonight. Thanks for thinking of us. Can you just picture me at 16 sitting in that Chevvie, Col was 17, how funny. Fancy Jeanie letting me go. Be in touch xxx
Ooh good news, the 20-25 knot winds, are blowing you up there quickly, so will make up for your time in Coffs.
DeleteYes why can't the measurements be all the same indeed, but thanks for the info. Yes I can picture you two in the "Chevvie by the Levy". Oh where did the time go??? Fair winds and smooth seas to you, over and out, till your next Blog/Ship's Log. Love Landlubber Cousins from Narara.
